Interactive Puppet
Description
The Vision & Light Path Simulator is an interactive educational model showing how light travels from an object into the eye. It follows the path of light through the cornea, pupil, and lens, shows how an inverted image forms on the retina, and then follows the visual signal through the optic nerve toward the brain. The simulator also explains that vision is not simply an image being mechanically flipped; retinal circuits and the brain process the incoming visual information.
Different simulation modes demonstrate normal vision, near and far viewing, myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, bright-light response, and dim-light response. You can also manually change object distance, pupil size, lens focusing power, animation speed, and which parts of the visual pathway are displayed. The model uses simplified geometry so the optical pathway is easier to understand.
How To Use
| Control | Setting | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Normal Vision | Mode | Shows light focused on the retina. |
| Near Object | Mode | Shows increased lens accommodation for a nearby object. |
| Far Object | Mode | Shows the flatter lens used when viewing a distant object. |
| Myopia | Mode | Shows a simplified nearsighted eye where the focus falls before the retina. |
| Hyperopia | Mode | Shows a simplified farsighted eye where the focus tends to fall behind the retina. |
| Astigmatism | Mode | Shows unequal curvature producing more than one focal path. |
| Bright Light | Mode | Demonstrates pupil constriction in bright conditions. |
| Dim Light | Mode | Demonstrates pupil dilation in darker conditions. |
| Object Distance | Slider | Moves between near, medium, and far viewing conditions. |
| Pupil Size | Slider | Changes the pupil opening and the amount of light entering the eye. |
| Lens Focusing Power | Slider | Changes the lens focusing strength and alters where the rays converge. |
| Animation Speed | Slider | Changes the speed of the animated light and neural-signal pulses. |
| Show | Menu | Choose the full view, light rays only, anatomy labels, or neural signals. |
| Pause / Play | Button | Pauses or resumes the animation. |
| Reset | Button | Returns the simulator to its default settings. |
